O ciclo «Conversas com Curadores» propõe a um curador por sessão a apresentação do seu percurso de trabalho e pesquisa teórico-prática. Tendo em vista o arco temporal necessário à construção de um percurso ou pesquisa autoral, o ciclo tem por objectivo reflectir áreas de investimento e abordagens da curadoria portuguesa segundo as perspectivas dos próprios agentes, proporcionando-se um espaço de justaposição e debate em que o público é convidado a participar.
Nuno Faria é um curador independente, tendo trabalhado no IAC (Instituto de Arte Contemporânea) entre 1997-2003. É, desde 2003, consultor do Serviço de Belas-Artes/Fundação Gulbenkian, instituição onde entre 2003 e 2007 trabalhou como curador convidado. Organizou exposições antológicas como a "TRANSCRIÇÕES E ORQUESTRAÇÕES. DESENHOS DE ÂNGELO DE SOUSA" "FERNANDO CALHAU – DESSIN" ambas no Centro de Arte Moderna, e a exposição antológica do pintor Luis Noronha da Costa "NORONHA DA COSTA REVISITADO: 1965-1983" colaboração com Miguel Wandschneider. Vive e trabalha no Algarve onde actualmente desenvolve o projecto do futuro Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Faro.

CONVERSATIONS WITH CURATORS: NUNO FARIA
The cycle "Conversations with curators" proposes a presentation of a curator's work and research per session. Acknowledging the necessary temporal arch to the construction of a work or authorial research, the cycle intends to reflect areas of investment and approaches in Portuguese curatorial practices from within the perspectives of these same agents, opening a space for confrontation and dialogue where the public is invited to participate.
Nuno Faria is an independent curator. He has worked at IAC (Instituto de Arte Contemporânea) between 1997-2003, and is, since 2003, consultant to Serviço de Belas-Artes/ Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, institution where he has worked as invited curator between 2003 and 2007. He has organized, among others, the anthological shows "TRANSCRIÇÕES E ORQUESTRAÇÕES. DESENHOS DE ÂNGELO DE SOUSA" "FERNANDO CALHAU – DESSIN" both at Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM), and painter Luis Noronha da Costa's anthological exhibition "NORONHA DA COSTA REVISITADO: 1965-1983" in collaboration with Miguel Wandschneider. He currently works and lives in Algarve where he is developing the project for the future Contemporary Art Museum of Faro.

O projecto SAAL - serviço ambulatório de apoio local - foi um programa de habitação social surgido no pós-25 de Abril (1974/ 76), concebido pelo arquitecto Nuno Portas, que embora não o prevendo, acolheu e estruturou com vários fins a participação das populações a quem as habitações se destinavam. O processo do SAAL estendeu-se a todo o território português, tendo-se focado maioritariamente em zonas urbanas.
O seminário reuniu ao longo dos dois dias cerca de 20 pessoas. O modelo de aproximação às comunidades, a atribuição de papéis para a contribuição de cada elemento interno e externo às mesmas, nomeadamente o papel dos arquitectos na sua organização e concepção, foram alguns dos elementos abordados. Abordou-se também o levantamento das problemáticas políticas então surgidas, do desgaste da iniciativa cívica, e das críticas estruturais à concepção do projecto arquitectónico.
Num segundo momento, propôs-se tomar o projecto SAAL como ponto de partida para a análise de problemáticas comuns decorrentes do envolvimento do utilizador no processo de construção e/ ou elaboração de um projecto, tanto ontem como hoje, que abrangem invariavelmente questões mais latas como o populismo, autoria partilhada, pressões governamentais ou a instrumentalização da cultura, nomeadamente na área das Artes Visuais e do Design.

The SAAL project - roughly translated as ambulatory service of local support - was a post 25th of April (1974/ 76) social habitation program, conceived by architect Nuno Portas, that, although not predicting it, structured with different ends the participation of the populations to which it was destined. Focusing mainly in urban areas, the SAAL process ranged the whole of the Portuguese territory.
The seminar brought together around 20 persons. The models of approach to the communities, as well as the attribution of roles to the contribution of each internal and external element to these, namely the role of the architects in its organization and conception, were some of the discussed themes. It was also discussed the political problematics which came from the process; the deterioration of civic initiative; and the structural critics made to the conception of the architectonical project.
In a second moment, it was proposed to read SAAL as a starting point for an analyses of common problematics resultant from the involvement of the user in the process of construction and elaboration of a project, yesterday and today; problematics which invariably range ampler concepts such as populism, shared authorship, governmental pressures and the instrumentalism of culture, namely in the fields of Visual Arts and Design.
